  • Super easy to install. Heats the water just as desired! Wish I had purchased this one sooner instead of the 2 cheap ones we tried. Highly recommended.– SaraKenny O’Dell
  • So, you get up in the morning to wash up, and turn on the hot water tap. And wait for hot water. And wait. And finally give up because you’re out of time, and cringe at the freezing cold water. The problem is that many houses have the water heater out in the garage, and long supply tubing under the floor or up in the ceiling, running hundreds of feet to where the faucets are located. The hot water may be hot where the supply lines are connected to the tank, but it quickly cools down. So, to actually get hot water at a remote tap, you have to run all the cold water through the pipe, until the hot water eventually gets there. it’s frustrating, and it wastes thousands of gallons each year. Yes, you could install a very expensive water circulation system, but they rarely work as advertised. The more practical solution is to install a small water heater under each sink, close to the tap. It’s a lot cheaper to keep a couple gallons of water hot under the sink than to waste cold water waiting for the hot stuff to get there. The advantage of a small 115-volt water heater is that it doesn’t need big wires. You can power it from a nearby 15-amp receptacle. When you open the hot water faucet at the sink, the already-hot water comes directly from the under-sink tank, so it only takes a second or two to get hot water. Nice. I connect the tank water supply to the existing “hot” water line, then connect the tank outlet to the hot water faucet. The cold water supply stays as is. Flexible braided hoses are available with the appropriate ends, in a variety of lengths. I use a pressure relief valve on top of the tank to meet local code, and set the tank in a rectangular aluminum or stainless steel baking pan to collect any errant water trying to do a runner. I like the Thermomate series because they are well-insulated, and the exterior cover provides a clean, stylish shape under the sink. I have a two-gallon tank under the bathroom sink, and a four-gallon tank under the kitchen sink because it supplies both the kitchen faucet and the dishwasher. The price is appropriate, and although I have no reason to suspect any reliability issues, if a tank did leak it would be cheap and easy to replace.– Hardly B

Long-Term Cost Benefits

Since this heater keeps a small amount of water hot right where you use it, you waste less water running taps waiting for heat. Its thick insulation helps keep energy use low, which can save you money on electricity over time. Plus, the sturdy build means you’re less likely to deal with repairs or replacements anytime soon.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Choose The Right Thermomate Water Heater For My Home?

When selecting a Thermomate water heater, you want to consider your household’s hot water needs and the installation location. If you need instant hot water at a single point like a kitchen sink or bathroom, a compact tankless model such as the 8kW or 11kW units will save space and energy. For slightly larger demands or multiple fixtures, the 14kW tankless or mini tank models with 4 to 6.5 gallons capacity might be better. Also, check your home’s electrical capacity since some models require 240 volts and higher amperage. Think about flow rate too—if you want to run multiple taps simultaneously, pick a model with a higher gallons-per-minute rating. Finally, consider ease of installation; some units plug into standard outlets, while others need professional wiring. Matching these factors to your usage will help you find the best fit.

Are Thermomate Water Heaters Energy Efficient And Easy To Maintain?

Yes, Thermomate water heaters are designed with energy efficiency in mind. The tankless models use self-modulating technology that adjusts power based on demand, so you’re not wasting electricity heating water you’re not using. Mini tank models keep a small volume of water hot, reducing the wait time and water waste. Maintenance is generally minimal since many units feature leak-proof and corrosion-resistant components. You won’t need batteries or frequent servicing, but it’s a good idea to check pressure relief valves and ensure proper installation to avoid leaks. Overall, you’ll likely see savings on your energy bills compared to traditional tank heaters, especially if you use hot water intermittently.

Can I Install A Thermomate Water Heater Myself, And What Should I Know About Usage?

If you’re comfortable with basic plumbing and electrical work, some Thermomate models are DIY-friendly, especially the mini tanks that plug into standard 120V outlets. However, tankless models running at 240 volts often require a licensed electrician for safe installation due to higher amperage and wiring complexity. Always follow local codes and manufacturer instructions. When using your water heater, keep in mind that tankless units need a minimum flow rate to activate heating, so very high flow can reduce water temperature. You might need to adjust your faucet flow or install flow restrictors for optimal performance. Also, setting the temperature around 120°F is usually safe and energy-efficient. With proper installation and usage, you’ll enjoy near-instant hot water and reduced water waste.

Wrapping Up

By reviewing these seven Thermomate water heaters, you can find a solution tailored to your home’s size, hot water needs, and budget. Whether you want instant hot water with a tankless model or prefer the simplicity of a mini tank under your sink, Thermomate offers reliable and efficient options. Choosing the right water heater can save you time, reduce water waste, and lower your energy bills, making your daily routines more comfortable and convenient.
